My Chemical Romance front man Gerard Way pauses concert to talk classic RPGs, admits he hasn’t played Baldur’s Gate 3 yet: ‘The first one was a lot of fun, the closest thing at the time to playing D&D’

There are, somehow, those of us who still haven’t played the hit 2023 RPG Baldur’s Gate 3, and I know that because someone asked My Chemical Romance front man Gerard Way at a recent concert.

As spotted by IGN, the question came via a large paper sign made by fan KatanaLuciana, who recorded the interaction for TikTok. The sign caught the eye of a bandmember, who then tapped Way’s shoulder to get his take between songs.

“No, I’ve only played Baldur’s Gate 1,” Way announced to the room. “Not that I probably wouldn’t have liked 2 or 3. I did play the Icewind Dale expansion, but I just ran out of time, you know?”

Way’s nerd bona fides are well documented—he’s a longtime D&D player, once streamed Overwatch and discussed his love of D.Va, and co-created the Umbrella Academy comic series that later became a Netflix show—but I’m not sure he’s talked at length about classic CRPGS. He clearly knows some ball, so we’ll forgive him for remembering Icewind Dale as an expansion rather than a standalone game.
